ACT NOW TO STOP BAD BODY CAM BILL

Here is info on the bill that the Minnesota Senate will be voting on Monday some time after 11 a.m.  PLEASE send a quick email to your Senator to tell them to vote NO on SF 498:

Click here for a rundown of SF 0498 with talking points about what's wrong with the bill.  In essence, all footage would be private personnel data unless the incident occurred IN PUBLIC and resulted in SUBSTANTIAL BODILY HARM.  In addition, the bill requires footage to be destroyed way too soon to be useful and offers no protections to the public.

The analysis includes info on companion bill SF 3291, but that bill isn't up for consideration right now.

ACTION NEEDED:

Contact your state Senator BEFORE 11 AM MONDAY and tell them to vote NO on SF 0498.  Do this by email but also call if you can on Monday morning.  Go here to find your senator.  Just enter your address and you will see your state representative, state senator, and your federal legislators.  You just need to know about your state senator for now.  Click on their name/picture and their contact info comes up.

UPCOMING EVENTS

5/1/16  10:30 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.
Mayday Parade and Festival
Parade starts at 25th Street and 18th Ave S, Minneapolis and ends in Powderhorn Park, 34th Street and 15th Ave S.

This is an ALL HANDS ON DECK situation for gathering signatures for our charter amendment.  We're asking people to arrive at 10:30 a.m. at Lake and Bloomington (by Mercado Central) to hand out flyers and gather petition signatures before the parade starts, then walk up to 25th St and 18th Ave to join our contingent for the parade.  We will be staffing a booth in Powderhorn Park.  Even if you can't get there this morning, please come in the afternoon.  This will allow someone to take a break while you relieve them at the booth or gathering signatures.  We also need a few people at about 7:00 p.m. to help with tear down.

5/3/16  6:00 p.m.
Defending the Muslim Community--Strategy Session

Cedar Commons, 2001 Riverside Ave, Minneapolis

We are going to be focused intently on coming up with a plan for working together across a broad spectrum to challenge Islamophobia and the programs that are institutionalizing Islamophobia (CVE - Countering Violent Extremism, and the Strong Cities Initiative).

5/7/16  6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.
National Lawyers Guild Social Justice Dinner
UFCW #1189 Union Hall, 266 Hardman Ave N, South St. Paul
For more info: http://www.nlgmn.org/
